ZECROSS
~INTRODUCTION~
Zecross is a very old american to yes even European sport that not only has been performed on dragons, but also on brooms. The broom version is the more fashionable. Ever since the magic folk crossed the waters people had been playing the sport. It wasn't until recent though that it had to be shielded off from Nonie eyes. It is one of the most popular and most famed sports of U.S. Said to even be greater than Nonie football. Then again it doesn't take much. The game is a very in depth art all of its own.
~GAME PLAY~
Zecross is cut, much like football, into four major quarters. Each quarter the Zecro (to which the game is named after), must be caught in order for that quarter to end. A Quid ball is thrown in a very much football like rectangular hoop. To try and stop the players from getting either the Zecro or the Quid ball to the hoop the spikers usually ram or use a ball called the tumbler to miss guide them. All players must be in the air on some sort of ride. the preferred is broom these days. Some games can go for just hours while other must be played out over a succession of days depending on if the zecro is caught. There are three levels in school which are junior varsity, varsity, and advanced varsity. Its a very competitive sort of game. Not a game for the light of heart and of body at that unless one is a tough little devil.
~PLAYERS~
Center-Main player of the team, usually is the team captian but not always. They can take the Quid by there hands, they are the only other one other than the short stop and stealer able to do so. They can also miss guide the opposing teams zecro if it gets near them. They tend to be an all around sort of player and are one of the most freed up positions to be. There can only be one center per team.
Spiker- These tough guys are people who beat the ball known as the tumbler around and also serve the Quid to the chargers. They have a special bat paddle hybrid that they use to hit these particular balls. They can never touch any of the balls. They can also miss guide a zecro if it comes at them with there paddles or hands. They also are the team members that can actually ram the opposing teams members legally. However, they cannot box in a opposing teams member. To be in this position one must be very very physically fit and tough. There are only four spiker's per team.
Charger-This part of the team are the ones that carry the Quid ball with a special rod that has a net like basket at the end of it. With that they catch and fling the Quid to another charger or into the goal post. They must be fast, the must be agile, and the must be very light weight to gain the speeds needed. There one of the more basic roles in Zecross, but there not any less important. All players must play there part. They too can miss guide a zecro. There are only three chargers on a team due to the fact that the center makes up sort of as a phantom charger of the group.
Short Stop- Basically a broom riding glorified goalie. They try to stop the Quid from getting into the hoop at any point. When one thinks about it really it is one of the more hardest positions to do. Stamina is what makes a short stop its best. Rarely do they ever deal with the zecro, but if it comes there way they can send it careening off in a odd direction. There is only one short stop per team.
Stealer- The player that catches the zecro per quarter and it is official. They have to be either small, really light, or fast as a bat. Its the most favored position to be in by many magic children. Its a very demanding position and probably one of the most important. The stealer's can touch the Quid ball if necessary with there hands as well. There is only one Stealer per team.
~EQUIPTMENT~
Broom Kit- The tools used to take care of the brooms for Zecross
Brooms- What the team players ride
Padding- Some of the players, especially the short stop must wear it just in case. Most of it is magically enhanced materials.
Quid- The ball that is thrown into the goal, it is about the size of a football but round. Is enchanted to hover at a certain point when active.
Tumbler- The ball that hits other members, is magically enhanced to hover and can only move if it is given momentum but has a charm on it that makes it so it can not leave far from the grounds. It is about the size of a basket ball and glows.
Zecro- A coin looking object when not active. When active it looks like a flying disc saucer like object with the teams colors on it and is big enough to grab still with on hand but looks about almost the size of a small plate. Each team has there own Zecro, which when two teams play both have there zecro's on the field at once. Usually it comes down to may the best man be faster at catching there own teams. These buggers are very hard to catch though it may not seem like so. Their gyro like abilities make them an agile foe.
Paddle- The object the spikers use to strike the Quid or the Tumbler. It looks like a cross between a ping pong paddle/tennis racket and that of a bat.
Staff- The net stick also better known as the staff, is used to catch the Quid to get it to the goal posts or to other chargers.
